Resilience Round Table
Meeting Resources

12th June 2026
9.30am -10.30am

Hi Doug here!

Thank you to everyone who attended the session last Friday.

This time, we discussed: What's love go to do with it?

To quote Marcus Buckingham in his book Love + Work:

“The secret to loving your work is to find the parts that make you feel most like yourself.”

Thank you, as always, for your contributions.

If you would like to discuss it further, please let me know, and we will organise a call or meeting.

Wishing you every success

Doug

Background Reading

Book

BOOK

Any Dumb-Ass Can Do It

by Garry Ridge

This is an inspiring book that emphasises the importance of loving what you do and bringing passion to your work every day.

Through practical lessons and real-world experiences, Ridge demonstrates how enthusiasm, purpose, and a positive mindset can lead to both personal fulfillment and professional success.

Doug particularly loves this book because of its uplifting message and its reminder that when people genuinely enjoy their work, they are more motivated, resilient, and capable of achieving meaningful results.

BOOK

Culture Shock

by Chip Ingram

We love a book recommendation and this was recommended by Natasha Fox during the meeting - in particular chapter 27.

This book offers a refreshing and inspiring perspective on work as a meaningful calling rather than just a daily obligation. Ingram's practical wisdom and biblical insights encourage readers to find purpose, excellence, and fulfillment in their work, making this chapter both motivating and highly applicable to everyday life.

BOOK

Love + Work

by Marcus Buckingham

This is an uplifting and inspiring book about finding joy and purpose in your career. Buckingham encourages readers to focus on the work that energises them and to build a life around their natural strengths and passions.

The book’s message is both practical and motivating. It's a great reminder that loving your work can lead to greater fulfillment and success. It offers a refreshing perspective on creating a meaningful and authentic career.

Podcast

 HUMANISE THE NUMBERS PODCAST

Humanise the Numbers podcast with Stephen Paul, MD at Valued.

Stephen talks about the importance of doing work that you love, his core purpose and the difference that establishing it has made. It has changed the way he connects with his team and his clients and the way he feels about himself.

He discusses how your firm is the tool to give you the money and the life you want and, when you understand why you are in business and the purpose behind the why, then you are more motivated to do the work to deliver that life.

Business Breakthroughs

 REPORT & SUPPORTING TOOLS

How do you achieve incredible business results in your accountancy firm AND build a team for sustainable success?

Doug talked a lot towards the end of the meeting about the important role managers have to play in the success of your firm.

The crucial point he made is that the skills and mindset of your managers drive team engagement and therefore client loyalty, essentially one drives the other. He also shared the Gallup’s research that the capabilities of your managers explain 70% of employee engagement and, therefore, your resulting success. To discover more about this read this Business Breakthrough report.
