Why am I not better at delegating?
Resilience Round Table

18th September 2026
9.30am -10.30am

Hi Doug here!
Thank you to everyone who attended the session last Friday.
This time, we discussed: Why am I not better at delegating?
To quote Garry Ridge in his book Any Dumbass Can Do It:
“I am not here to grade your papers. I’m here to help you get an “A”. Our job as leaders is to help our people get “A’s”.
Thank you, as always, for your contributions.
If you would like to discuss it further, please let me know, and we will organise a call or meeting.
Wishing you every success
Doug

BOOK
Any Dumbass Can Do It
by Garry Ridge
This book is a great reminder that business leaders don’t have to do everything themselves. Ridge shares lessons from his time leading WD-40, with a strong focus on trust, culture, giving people responsibility and creating an environment where others can step up and succeed.
If your instinct is always “I’ll just do it myself” because it feels quicker or you think nobody will do it quite as well, you become the bottleneck. Good delegation is not about handing off jobs you don’t want to do. It is about giving people the opportunity, responsibility and support to grow, while freeing you up to focus on the things only you can do.
