Visit to Seating Matters

Session Resources

9th July 2025

Hi folks
It was great to see you all in Limavady last week. It was an eye-opening couple of days that has given us all something to aspire to. Remember, this was 8 years in the making. Slow is Smooth. Smooth is Fast.

To recap.

We spent time with Rob Healy sharing our ‘what bugs you, and what bugs you about your team’ stories. No surprise that there were several similarities and common themes.

Rob gave us an overview of the Seating Matters story and an insight into the Japanese culture that pervades this approach.. This helped us understand how this has impacted the language used at Seating Matters and more powerfully how this has built a culture that everyone has bought into and is proud to part of.

The desire to delight the customer – Omotenashie.

We learnt about the 8 types of waste. The 3S’s (Sort, Sweep and Standardise). Improvement time. Peer to peer learning is better than top-down approach. Total ownership areas (Dual ownership is no ownership at all).

The factory tour – mind blowing. There is plenty to take away from this and to kick start our ‘Lean journey’ we agreed that we will make an improvement to something in our own work environment, and identify someone in our team that we can introduce to the concept of Lean, and that will support you and be an advocate for the introduction small improvements firm wide.

There’s plenty more for us to get to grips with but to kick this off we’ve set up the Lean Made Simple WhatsApp group where we’ll share our improvements (1 per fortnight) and we’ll arrange a catch up for this group in September via Teams.

If there's anything else that you'd like to see as a resource for this discussion, just drop sally@remarkablepractice.com a line and she will add it to this page.

Wishing you every success!

Profitable Enthusiasm.

As a leader, you determine your team’s level of enthusiasm.

And without enthusiasm for the work they do, your people will be a major source of stress and strain. Stress and strain that can be prevented.
