Managers Development Group 2024

 ACCA Glasgow
12th March
1st May
26th June

26th June Notes:
It was great to spend time with you all last week – thank you for all your input and participation.

In this resources page you’ll find some slides from the day; a reminder of the “difficult conversations” frameworks and also all the flipchart output.

You committed to two pieces of homework, both to be completed by Friday 12th July, as follows:-

•Write your sentence which, in your words, summarises what it is to be a great manager
•Give me some feedback on what subjects/material you feel would next benefit you and your managerial journey

Finally, 2 reminders:

  •  next group call will be the week commencing 19th August (we'll be in touch soon with the confirmed date and time),
  • 1-2-1 calls - if you don’t already have a date, you’ll be hearing from us to book this in very soon.

Keep up the great work folks!

EXTRA READING

Rather than treat difficult conversations as a 'blame game message delivery' exercise; treat difficult converstions as 'learning conversations'. Genuine learning conversations dissolve difficulty.

Business Breakthrough Difficult Conversations

1st May Notes:
Great to see you all on the call today.

We reflected on what had changed since our first session and you all shared thoughts and insights that will benefit everyone in the group – thank you.

The Miro board here captures these insights as well as potential subjects for us to cover in our session on 26th June. If you have any further ideas about content, please let me know and I’ll add them to the agenda.

12th March Notes:
Thanks again for your energy and commitment to what was an excellent first session last week!

See below for an abbreviated copy of the slides that covers off the main content.

In summary, we spent some time trying to understand ourselves and how we might come over to others. We wanted to recognise that we are all unique, and that we all see the world differently, we have unique talents and we all apply a lens or filter to how we see the world based on our influences as we grew up.

We learned why we react the way that we do, and next time we’ll learn some tools we can actively apply that teach us HOW to manage better.

I’ve also attached the flipchart output from the day which, when you look at it together with the slides, will provide a record of everything we discussed.

For homework, I’m suggesting the following:-

1. Create your own individual action plan – what 2 or 3 things will you change as a consequence of the first session. Remember the SMART acronym when setting objectives, and I’d also encourage you to buddy up with someone so you’re sharing what you want to achieve with someone who can help you hold yourself accountable for undertaking the necessary actions.

2. If you’re a reader, read the book
“First Break All The Rules” by Gallup (I think audio versions are also available)

3.Read the Business Breakthroughs below (should only take 10 minutes each) and see how these affect your action plan, if at all
